film reading series

The Towne Street Theatre is proud to announce its 2006/2007 Screenplay Readers Series. Selected screenplays will be produced as staged readings by the Towne Street Theatre. The goal of the Film Reading Series is to give new and/or unproduced screenwriters an opportunity to "see and hear" the material read by professional actors. Invitations to the Film Industry, i.e, development, agents are also sent out. Q & A follows each reading.

SUBMISSION RULES
1. Feature-length screenplays should be between 90-120 pages (screenplays for shorts should be no longer than 30 pages).

2. You may submit more than one screenplay.

3. We strongly suggest that you register or copywright your screenplays.

4. Each submission must be accompanied by a $20.00 processing fee. (make checks or money orders payable to The Towne Street Theatre. These fees are nonrefundable.)

FORMAT RULES
1. Screenplays should be in US motion picture industry standard screenplay format (size 12 font, courier or new courier type).

2. Pages must be numbered, three-hole punched, and fastened with two or three brads between card stock covers.

3. For return of material, please enclose self-addressed stamped envelope.

staged reading series

The Towne Street Theatre is proud to announce its 2006/2007 Staged Reading Series. Selected plays will be produced as staged readings by the Towne Street Theatre. The goal of the Staged Reading Series is to give new and/or unproduced playwrights an opportunity to "see and hear" the material read by professional actors. New material for the theater to produce is often selected from this series.

1. One Acts and Full length plays are permissable.

2. You may submit more than one play.

3. We strongly suggest that you register or copyright your plays.

4. Each submission must be accompanied by a $20.00 processing fee. (make checks or money orders payable to The Towne Street Theatre. These fees are nonrefundable.)

The Towne Street Theater Conservatory was created to address the issue of the void in professional theater training by people of color in theater, particularly African-Americans, in Los Angeles. The proper training is imperative to longevity in the arts. We offer training with professional instructors who are working the business. AFFORDABLE TUITION.

Towne Street Theatre Comedy Class
By popular demand this class has been extended to eight weeks. That's right eight weeks to change, learn and develop comedy skills, change your life and promote world peace (just kidding, you'll have to change your life on your own). Excellent class for actors looking to hone their comedy skills as well as comedians.

Taught by Tony Robinson (former Playboy comic of they year), a veteran comic whose career spans more than two decades headlining across the US, Europe and includes 13 tours entertaining the men and women serving in our country in military, the Towne Street Theatre comedy class will give you the foundation need to pursue the art of stand-up comedy. Past guest lecturers have included, Brad Sanders (Batty Boy), Gerry Benob (International Star Search winner), Brad Slaight (VH-1) and Marc Howard (BET).

Scene Study with Towne Street Theatre Artistic/Producing Director Nancy Cheryll Davis-Bellamy

Becoming the Character through Monologue and Scene Work - If acting is being, then in order to act, you must truly be the character. This eight week class will use various methods - sense memory, improvisation, movement and more, to help you find the true character in the work. Nancy is an NAACP Best Actress Winner, Lincoln Center Director's Lab West Alumni and received her training at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.
