Robey's
mission is, through the creative process, to explore and develop
relevant provocative, and innovative new plays written about the Black
experience, as well as to reinterpret established works. Robey creates
a nourishing environment of understanding and support in which
multi-cultural theatre artists are compelled to take risks in the
search for artistic fulfillment. It provides time, educational
opportunities, and encouragement for such growth and contributes to
high standards of excellence in the Black theatre in America.

What
is intimate theatre, anyway? It's hard to say because of the
incredible diversity of the art form. But one thing is for sure: it's as
close as you can get without holding a karaoke mic, and no one wants that,
do they? No. Intimate theatre engages you because you are there in the
space with the performers, breathing the same air, experiencing the story
more directly, more personally than in any other medium. You can't get
that from the boob tube, can you?

The Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival ("LAWTF")
was organized to provide a vehicle for the development of women artists
utilizing theatre to educate, enlighten and empower solo artists,
audiences and volunteers.
We celebrate and reflect the
diversity of women's voices while focusing on the oneness of women's
experiences.
Background
The first Annual Festival was held during March, 1994, to
coincide with the nationally recognized Women's History Month. LAWTF
performances celebrate women as artists and cherish the dignity of women
in their roles as daughters, mothers and shapers of the community.
