PERFORMANCE BIOGRAPHY
DeBorah Sharpe-Taylor comes to you after performing as
the Principal Vocalist in the celebrated musical "Booby Trap" (Hudson Backstage Theatre) in Los Angeles. This
summer, of 2006, she prepared 24 budding young new artists, to perform the music of
"Bubbling Brown Sugar", (the Broadway Musical) for Towne
Street Theatre Company's 4 week Summer Musical Theatre Camp.
She is also head of the Vocal Division for All About Kids Performing
Arts Conservatory, and she teaches voice privately. Her most
recent stage performance credits include, "Blues in the Night",
"REJOICE", and "Letters to Harriet Tubman",
which she performs throughout the greater Los Angeles area (as Harriet).
DeBorah Sharpe-Taylor was in the original production of "Little
Shop of Horrors" with her late husband, the original voice of
"Audrey II" (the Man Eating Plant), Ron Taylor. She
performed in and functioned as Vocal Director (Geffen
Playhouse) for the Broadway Musical Ron created, "It Ain't Nothing
but the Blues".
Other Theatre credits include "Jelly's Last Jam",
"The Wiz", "Purlie", "Violet"
and many other productions.
DeBorah Sharpe-Taylor has had the privilege of touring with
many notable performers. She appeared as the 3rd member of "The Supremes" with Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong. She has
also done back up vocals and performed with Harry Belafonte, Soul II Soul,
and Barry White to name a few.
VOCAL
INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHY
DeBorah Sharpe-Taylor has been an instructor to
vocalists for well over 20 years. Beginning with church choirs as a
teen she has guided voices most of her professional life. Some years
ago she began her association with Seth Riggs as her instructor when she
was touring as a vocalist with Harry Belafonte. By and by, Seth
encouraged her to teach others the technique he has developed so
successfully. In 1990 she became an associate of Seth's, with his
blessing, and began teaching privately.
In addition, Ms. Sharpe-Taylor, Alto, is a member
of Life Choir, a community choir in Los Angeles, the choir at her church,
Christ Memorial pastored by Andrae Crouch, and has the privilege of
performing numerous at both recording sessions and public performances
with her celebrated pastor. Ms. Sharpe-Taylor reads music
being a music minor and graduate of Oral Roberts University. At Oral
Roberts she was a World Action singer performing on the ministry's
Television Program.
DeBorah Sharpe-Taylor's student roster includes artists
from Mexico, Taiwan and the U.S. Those which have recorded include
Daniela Castro, a soap opera start in Mexico, The Pump Girls, a teen
female singing group with diabetes and DIVA, the jazz artist from Taiwan.
Other vocal accomplishments include;
- Conducting the children's choir that honored Harry
Belafonte on The Image Awards.
- Vocal Director for the hit Broadway Musical "It
Ain't Nothing But the Blues" - winner of 4 Tony Award
nominations.
- Vocal Director, currently, for The Towne Street
Theatre Company's Summer Youth Theatre Camp Program.
- Vocal Director for All About Kids Performing
Arts Conservatory's Vocal Division.
- Vocal Director and Conductor of The Children's Choir
for Andrae Crouch's Christmas Album.
- One of the bright stars of Ms. Sharpe-Taylor's
tutelage, Karron Henderson, starred in the production of "The Lion
King" at the Pantages.
- Vocal Director and contractor for the children's
choir for "American Idol's Christmas Special".
